Every day, new applications and use cases for the HoloLens emerge, reshaping the way we work. One of the recent examples we want to spotlight comes from Chevron. They harnessed the power of the HoloLens to assist a pregnant employee in performing her job remotely.

Over the past two years, especially since the onset of the pandemic, we’ve discussed how the HoloLens and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist applications empower individuals to collaborate from any location. This has been invaluable in light of social distancing and travel limitations. As companies embraced this technology, various adaptations of its use cases followed suit. Remote operations became the new norm, giving rise to activities such as remote bridge inspections, medical surgeries performed remotely, and instructor-led training conducted from a distance.

Chevron’s innovative application stands out. When a pregnant employee approached them, Chevron rose to the occasion, devising a solution to enable the expectant mother to fulfill her job responsibilities. Opting for the HoloLens, they facilitated her work from a safe environment. Instead of navigating a moving vessel or scaling ladders to different floor levels, the soon-to-be mother conducted her tasks from an office while another employee shared their field of view via the HoloLens. The combined capabilities of the HoloLens and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist effectively enable virtual presence anywhere.

A noteworthy accolade goes to Chevron for their unwavering commitment to their employees and their principles. It would have been simpler to declare the work conditions too hazardous for the pregnant employee and assign her a different role temporarily. However, Chevron chose the path of integrity. They celebrated the pregnancy and devised a means for the employee to continue her beloved job.

In an era where rights and inclusivity are pivotal aspects of society, positive stories like this often get overshadowed by the negative ones. This narrative, however, deserves widespread recognition and viral attention. Furthermore, this use case highlights the potential for individuals with disabilities, whether temporary or permanent. They’re capable of performing on par with their peers and deserve equal treatment. Thanks to the capabilities of the HoloLens and Dynamics 365 Remote Assist, stories like this are not only feasible but also indicative of many more to come.
