The Different HoloLens Healthcare Use Cases
The widespread adoption of virtual deliveries and remote operation shifted from a Covid-19 solution to a new standard of how business operate delivering a better way to work. Microsoft HoloLens and Mixed Reality are pushing the boundaries and reimagines what we can do by doing more with less.
Here are the three main use cases we currently see in the field:
- Holographic Patient Consultation
Enhance Patient Engagement
Holographic Patient Consultation enhances patient engagement. The HoloLens, Mixed Reality, and Holograms provide doctors a 3D model to show patients what they’re talking about. One of the biggest challenges in patient consultation is when doctors explain what is wrong and what a procedure will do. Images are helpful but limits what the patient sees in 2D. Holograms provide a whole new field of view and demonstrates what is wrong, what happens if the issues are not taken care of, and what the procedure does. Patients are more informed with Holographic Patient Consultation and able to make better educated medical decisions.
- Remote Expert Consultation
Empower Health Team Collaboration
Remote Expert Consultation is the use case we are all most familiar with. We have adopted this during the pandemic. Thanks to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Remote Assist doctors and patients meet together from anywhere. Doctors collaborate with subject matter experts at a moment’s notice to make what might be a critical lifesaving decision. Other benefits include limiting doctor and patient exposure to Covid-19 and other highly contagious scenarios. The environmental, supply chain, and economic impact by reducing the amount of PPE (Personal protective equipment) used.
- Training Simulations
Reimagine Healthcare Training
Another area the healthcare field was affected by Covid-19 is training. Professors and students were restricted from in person labs where they learn how to perform procedures and develop the hands-on skills to succeed. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides offers a self-paced training where they are head up hands free. Students learn without instructors at their own pace and retain information at a higher rate than watching someone else or reading a book. As the ratio of professors to students grows larger, Guides helps free instructor’s time from demonstrations to answering questions and reviewing student performance.
Doctors do not get to control when different types of procedures are needed. One day the hospital might need a heart transplant then next might a different type of procedure. Ideally students would be in the room to watch what is goes on. But with Covid-19 and the unpredictable nature of medicine that is tough to achieve. Remote Assist allows students to be in the room and see proper field of view. Guides and Remote Assist builds a catalog of each scenario to watch and simulate.
