Remote Assist helps Varian engineers keep cancer treatment going during COVID-19

 In Mixed Reality Use Cases

Cancer treatment can depend on keeping Varian’s radiation devices up and running. When a problem occurs that a local technician cannot solve, Varian used to put an engineer on an airplane travel to the hospital site.  Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic has restricted travel.  So, Varian purchased the Microsoft HoloLens and Remote Assist cloud application and hired CraneMorley to create a virtual workshop to enable its field engineers to see the problem through the eyes of the local technician and guide them through a solution without travel.

CraneMorley’s innovative approach to delivering the instruction included “walking the talk” by having its instructor wear a HoloLens and use the Remote Assist application to teach the engineers across the country in the safety of their home offices.
